Day at the Docks 2018

Earth Day at the Docks: A Shelter Island Favorite

What a Catch: San Diego’s Top Fishing Celebration

Day at the Docks 2018 arrives just ahead of Earth Day in San Diego, so grab your shades and sunscreen on April 15 and head out to a favorite spring Shelter Island pastime, only moments from our hotel. You don’t have to be an expert fisher to make the most out of this maritime occasion; in fact, if you’re interested in learning the ways of the sea, this is the time for it.

The Spirit of Competition—With an Educational Bonus

Contests are the main attraction, and feature seasoned experts taking on newcomers—all in good fun, of course. There are angling and knot tying contests, each with fishing trips and tackle hauls as the grand prize. If you’d rather brush up on your skills, there will be a series of seminars, including insider tips from San Diego’s top anglers and seafood prep demonstrations by area chefs.

Full Access Boat Tours

Always wanted to tour a sport fishing boat? Now’s your chance. The crews of San Diego’s many sport fishing crafts will be welcoming all aboard, as will a Harbor Police Fire Boat, a US Coast Guard Special Purpose Craft, and small but mighty towboats. For anyone who loves seeing how vessels like these operate, this is a must-do.

Festivities For Foodies

With the catch of the day making up the majority of the feast, seafood lovers will have their fill of choices. There will also be an impressive showing of offerings from the land: Day at the Docks features specials from local Shelter Island restaurants, courtesy of the Gourmet Galley, so that you’ll get a representative taste of San Diego’s best cuisine.

Welcome the start of Dan Diego’s sportfishing season and check out this beloved nautical festival, mere minutes from Shelter Island’s best hotel.
